Newberg Avenue to Rocky Creek Road
Originally scheduled for December 7, 2025 - the Houston Avenue program will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026 to kick off Macon Bike Walk Month!
Back by popular demand, Open Streets returns to Houston Avenue with an extended route from Newberg Avenue to Rocky Creek Road. This family-friendly celebration will spotlight community spaces like Pendleton Homes, Bruce Elementary, and several local churches and businesses - featuring live music, games, and interactive activities for all ages.
“I’m beyond excited for the return of one of Middle Georgia’s most anticipated and requested events - Bike Walk Macon’s Open Streets! And the best part is, it’s returning to Houston Avenue and the surrounding areas, and it promises to be better than ever,” says District 2 Commissioner Paul Bronson.
“As a commissioner, I’m proud to support organizations like Bike Walk Macon that are dedicated to pedestrian safety, enhanced mobility, and building a vibrant, healthy community through creative initiatives like Open Streets and Play Streets.
I want to personally invite everyone — not just the amazing residents of District 2, but the entire Macon-Bibb family and neighboring counties — to join us. Bring your bikes, skates, skateboards, and your energy for a day filled with music, food, fun, and community connection. I’ll see you on the road!”

2:00 pm | OMBA Bike Parade - Meet at between Villa Crest Ave and Grenada Terrace to decorate your bike, then join the Ocmulgee Mountain Bike Association for a fun, slow-roll bike parade through the route. Bike Parade will take off at 2:45 pm.
3:30 PM | Xtreme Hip Hop with Marquita B - Step aerobics for 30 minutes. A new twist on the old step aerobics.

How to get involved!
Volunteers
We need dozens of dedicated volunteers to help us bring the streets of Macon to life! We need your help from setting up to taking surveys, counting people, tactical urbanism projects and assisting our activity partners. We hope you’ll join us and help us transform our city!
ACTIVITY PARTNERS
Our activity partners make Open Streets Macon one of the most unique programs in Macon-Bibb County. Activity Partners can be agencies, organizations, businesses, clubs, residents, government agencies, or anyone else that has the capacity to provide an activity on the Open Streets route. Activity Partners who sign-up after April 17 may not be included in marketing/printed materials for the Houston Avenue route. We will still accept submissions, but we cannot guarantee advertising after April 17 for the first Open Streets route.
